2024 Goals: Lowering the Bar
Well, it’s that time again. Setting new goals. I fell far short of last year’s goals, only hitting around half and running from game to game recklessly.
In trying to hit last year’s goals, I found that it prevented me from working on games that I actually wanted to work on, and maybe only one of the writing games that I did do was motivated by the goal. So, with the aim of preserving motivation, I’m returning to the previous year’s goal, sort of.
I want to make four games with year, with at least two of those being games that are currently in progress. Let’s do a new quick run-through of the biggest targets for in-progress games.
That Isn’t Very Many Games!
That’s true! It’s two fewer games and one fewer unfinished game than in 2022. I doubt it will matter much, as I surpassed the goal back in 2022 anyway, but I’d like to tackle some bigger games.1 Some of the bigger games I made in 2023 were the most rewarding, and I have some bigger ones I’d like to target.
All My Unfinished Games
Only counting ones where I spent more than three hours of work, without context (and with code names!) but haven’t finished yet. Those with discerning eyes will realize that this list is two longer than when I had a similar goal in 2022.
- Boar3D
- DaleZ
- Demon Summon Game
- Escape Room Professor
- HodgePodge
- Fighter’s Guild
- Four Block Drop Gaiden
- LowRezExplorer
- Pier
- PushPull
- Sacrifice Game
- Space Cards
- Strange Traveler
- Time Loop
Conclusion
This post is shorter than my previous goals posts, as I don’t think writing out ideas actually helped me at all. Despite being a lower overall number of games, with the bigger games that are my shadow goal for the year, I think there’s a good possibility that I’ll miss what I actually intended to accomplish while hitting my stated goal. We’ll see!

Not that I strayed away from bigger games in 2022—Ratakanen, America is Bleeding., and ProtoBound are some of the bigger games I’ve made. ↩︎
